Gales in the Lake District
It’s been a gusty day in the North West.
They say there’s no such thing as bad weather in the Lake District, just the wrong clothes, but you’d have had to wrap up well today!
Several roads have been closed including the A591 between Windermere and Ambleside and the A592 south of Troutbeck. We have not had it as bad as Scotland but the weather has been quite severe.
We have had so much rain over the last few days that they have had to open the sluice gates at the southern end of Windermere. The last time this happened was during the Cumbrian floods of 2009.
Ironically on the day we hear that the first wind turbines in the Lake District National Park have just been given planning permission to allow the iconic Kirkstone Pass Inn to keep functioning, the winds today have been to strong for wind turbines around the country!
