"What a great place. This was our first time at Otter Lodge and won't be our last. The time has just flown by, everyday packed but totally relaxing, just what we needed after a busy Christmas. Unfortunately the Mortal Man is closed until the end of January but the Queens head was lovely; good, basic pub grub at the Haybarn. A wonderful cosy stay. We will definitely be back later in the year" - January 2011
"Although our holiday was delayed by one day due to the cabin water being frozen and we then spent the first 24 hours without water, ferrying buckets of water from the lodge my daughter was staying in (Kingfisher) we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lodge is great, clean and well equipped. Zak, our 18-month-old dalmatian and his half brother Scoops (daughter's dog) have had a whale of a time. Our grown-up son who stayed with us in Otter has walked miles in the snow. The scenery is so beautiful, the food at The Haybarn brilliant. John was into communication with our daughter constantly until the water came on. Thank you John for your excellent customer service. My daughter, her husband and Scoops the dog staying in Kingfisher with Martin's mum and dad kept company with us and I had a great time. New Year's Eve brilliant buffet free at the Haybarn. Family had fab time and will be back. Thank you for the fab accommodation." - January 2011 (NB - we will be fitting trace heating to Otter Lodge this year to avoid any repetition of the frozen pipes issue - it was -19C the day before our guests arrived!!!)
"Had a fantastic weekend at Otter Lodge despite the cold weather and snow - just made the cabin even more inviting and cosy! We ate at the Haybarn - very comfy couches and lovely log fire. Also ate at Mortal Man - lovely place - a very comfortable and food was beautiful. The cabin is in a very good position within the park - despite the cold we managed to sit outside listening to the beck flowing with a nice glass of wine. Perfect start to Christmas. Sailed on Windermere from Bowness and had a lovely afternoon in Hawkshead. Will definitely return - our dogs loved their walks and will miss the place. Many thanks" - December 2010
"Very happy with our stay at Otter Lodge. Never stayed at the Lakes before. Would recommend it to friends and family. The lodge itself is warm and cosy. It feels like a million miles away from home. Wish we could have stayed longer, will be back at Otter Lodge in the summer if available (hope so). Best position on the site. Thank you so much. See ya soon."- November 2010
"We have absolutely loved our stay at Otter Lodge. We came for a weekend break to celebrate our first year together and got engaged! We felt really at home and only wish we could stay longer. We ate at the Queens Head and the Mortal Man and thoroughly enjoyed both. We found the Mortal Man to be like a cosy friendly local and the Queens Head was more upmarket with fantastic food. Both pubs gladly accepted our Jack Russell (Rusty), although the Mortal Man and made him feel right at home and spoiled him with lots of biscuits. We visited Bowness and Ambleside and thought that Bowness was a much better place to shop. We picked up some lovely Christmas presents. We will hopefully be back to stop in Otter Lodge in the future." - November 2010
"What a relaxing stay in idyllic surroundings!! Even the pouring rain every day couldn't dampen our spirits. It was great to go out on walks with our playful cocker spaniel knowing that you were "coming home" to a cosy and warm lodge. Our little five-year-old had a great time in a play area particularly the zip wire even in the boggy and wet conditions. The lodge is fantastic with every creature comfort provided and it was just great to relax and unwind from the stresses and strains of everyday working life. Would definitely recommend to family and friends and are considering a Christmas break in the very near future!" - October 2010
"So glad we came :-) The lodge was so comfy and warm and everything we needed was to hand. My daughter (six years) loves the play area and even this time of year the pool in the river. It is our second visit and my husband's first. I'm really happy that it was as I remembered. He has managed to relax for once and slow down. Great walks with our dog and good food and sky TV and the pub (football!!). I'd recommend the Lake District visitors centre at Brockhole - dog friendly and beautiful gardens and great play area. Looking forward to coming back soon. Thank you for a wonderful time"- October 2010
"What a fantastic lodge and a beautiful surrounding! We had a lovely chilled week away from the norm. Couldn't fault the lodge at all - everything we've needed has been here. Been on a lovely walk - Bobby loved it - and a boat trip on Lake Windermere. Gorgeous views and will definitely be back! Thanks for a lovely stay" - October 2010
"We had a lovely break away from home, felt like we could totally switch off in this stress-free cabin. Really is home from home and didn't need anything extra as it's all here !! We spent our time at Grizedale Forest and Whinlatter Forest, excellent trail walks with Zack our black lab - he loved it. Fantastic views can't believe we were all the way up the top. The day cruising from Ambleside - 4 mile walk to Bowness then back to Ambleside was another lovely day out. Recommend the Mortal Man pub food! Good menu and large portions, friendly and welcoming to us and Zak. Thanks for the lovely stay. Usually I'm ready for home after a holiday abroad but this holiday I could easily stay." - October 2010
"Another great week in the lodge. We had a visit of a badger on Tuesday night which has done a little bit of damage to the gate. Fantastic to see them but can do a lot of damage. At last after a week Jake our springer spaniel is worn out. Will be back again hopefully this year for a weekend." October 2010
"Stay just as good as last time, even with all the rain. We'll be here next year all being well. Thanks for a cosy cabin with all mod cons." - October 2010
"Very enjoyable stay, lovely well appointed lodge. Not our first visit to the Lake District and won't be our last. Would love to come back to Otter Lodge. Recommend good value at Haybarn and one of many good places is the Wateredge at Ambleside. Very clean and comfortable. Thanks."- September 2010
"Lovely lodge, wonderful setting plus the bonus of great weather for most of the week. Cosy, comfortable accommodation as per your information, everything we needed to hand. Very central for visiting different locations. This is the first time we have had a holiday with our dog. She enjoyed investigating the area and settled extremely well. Thank you John and Linda for a great week. We will be back"- September 2010
"Lovely lodge in a stunning setting. Breakfast on the deck, watching the ponies and listening to the babbling brook was a wonderful start to the day. Facilities in the lodge brilliant - we wanted for nothing. The bed was so comfortable! The beer garden at the Mortal Man is lovely, well worth a visit. All in all a very enjoyable holiday (Weather fantastic). We will be back." - September 2010
"Very happy with our stay in Otter Lodge. Everything was as described in your information. A beautiful plot, lovely views, pretty places to visit. The Haybarn pub was very comfortable and food was nice ... daughter aged nine loved the part and the pond area. Altogether a great place for R&R. Would recommend to friends and family." - August 2010
"What a lovely lodge and a fantastic location. Dog will not want to go home, he has loved his own private stream to splash about in. The Mortal Man was a treat on our first night and the food was great. Not so keen on the pub on site, the Haybarn, food was okay but nothing fantastic. Best bit was sitting on the balcony on a night in the sunshine with a glass of wine. Fantastic. Would definitely come back again." (but their daughter said: "I beg to differ, I loved the pub on site especially the jacket potato and lasagne. But I wasn't too keen on the Mortal Man as there wasn't much vegetarian options" - Must be horses for courses :-))- August 2010
"Fantastic lodge with fantastic facilities. It's brilliant to the way that you can bring your dog and they can run around the decking and not be able to get out due to the gate. Loved the reclining sofas and the bunkbed was extremely comfy (I was on top!) thanks for agreat stay in a lovely place. Views are great!" - August 2010
"Great lodge and a fantastic location, just wish we'd booked for longer ! Best place to eat was the Mortal Man! Pub on the site is nice and kid friendly too. Thanks a lot." August 2010
"Wow what can we say? -- the lodge was fantastic better than we imagined. Warm and comfortable and very peaceful. Just what we needed a few days away - no mobile phone coverage and no work hassles. We have loved every minute of it and I'm gutted to be going home. Wish we had booked for longer. Big thanks to John and Linda, the owners, you have provided everything we needed for a perfect long weekend. Little boy has had a ball and we can't wait to book again. Would recommend the Haybarn where we were made very welcome - lovely friendly service. The food was very good ( big portions)" - August 2010
"Well what can I say? This lodge is amazing, very comfortable and has everything you need, can't fault it one bit. Recommended is hiring a boat on Windermere and taking a barbecue with you sitting on the jetty. Will be returning" - August 2010
"Recommended to us by friends who have stayed in both Otter and Kingfisher Lodges. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find the place just picture perfect. Fabulous views and location spot on. Clean and well equipped. Oscar, our Golden Lab settled in so well he looked like he lived here!! The perfect place for a well earned "chill out" from a busy world. Thank you to John and Linda for renting the lodge out. A place like home and it's simply wonderful!! We will be back for another stay " - August 2010
"Thank you for a lovely relaxing holiday - only one complaint - we have to go home! Location clean and comfortable - accommodation first-class thank you John and Linda" - July 2010
"What a lovely lodge and a great place. The weather not the greatest but we still had a brilliant time. Only one regret is we wish we had bought the dog! Maybe next time" - July 2010
"This has been our first mini break with our nine-month-old daughter, so I'd been a bit nervous that may be the lodge wouldn't be as well-equipped or comfortable as promised, but thankfully it's been great. We loved our weekend exploring the countryside, feeding the resident duck family and generally marvelling at the views. Sunday was very wet and windy, but knowing we had such a comfortable base to return to meant it really didn't spoil our trip. Thanks very much - and we look forward to returning here and exploring Cumbria again when our little girl is a little older" - July 2010
"What a wonderful holiday. Came with ourt German Shepherd dog who had a fabulous time. The lodge is excellent, very well equipped. The bed is extremely comfortable. We ate at the Haybarn, Mortal Man and the Queen's Head. All of them were very good but the Queen's Head is excellent. A little more expensive but of a very high standard. Gorgeous food! We can recommend hiring a boat on Ullswater where dogs were very welcome. Dog loved it. We will definitely return again as we've had a wonderful week. Lodge is in a beautiful location. Many thanks. PS look out for the resident duck and her babies - she calls for her bread." - July 2010
"A very nice lodge in a great location. The weather has been excellent - better than our last break in the Lakes. (Flood of November 09) Would recommend this place to friends and family. Should have booked two weeks." - June 2010
"Like the people before we also bought our 10-month black labrador, Macey. She had a brilliant time. We found the lodge cosy and had everything we could possibly need. The weather has been fantastic and we have done a few walks, the views are amazing. Macy was spoiled at The Mortal Man as the girls gave her biscuits, she thought that was wonderful. Shame to be going home tomorrow, thanks for a great time." - June 2010
"Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful log cabin. My daughter and I are with our 10-month-old labrador Jake who has had such a good time here. Would love to return again. Sad to be going home." - June 2010
"Had a very relaxing break, the lodge is beautiful with one of the best spots on the park. We will be returning again. Our dod Millie had a brilliant time." - June 2010
"Have had a lovely break in the Lake District. The lodge and location is fantastic. We have enjoyed trips to Keswick ,Ullswater, Aira Force, the Kirkstone Pass, Windermere and of course Bowness. We found the service and meals at the Haybarn fantastic. Mortal man good too. We have found sitting on the sundeck listening to the flow of the river with a glass of winethe best! Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Lottie) has enjoyed her holiday too - the dog walking area is very peaceful. We will be coming again" - May 2010
"We would just like to say thank you for letting us stay in your lodge. We were very surprised when we walked in. It is just perfect. The bed is so comfortable (must try and get one for home). The weather not too bad but the day we are going it is glorious. Wish we could stay longer. We will certainly be coming back - thank you again." - May 2010
"What a fantastic place. Wonderful location and first-class accommodation. Everything we needed. Truly a home from home. First holiday for our 12-month Bedlington who is normally quite nervous in new situations but not this time. He had a fantastic time and settled in immediately. The music and entertainment was a very nice touch. You really made his holiday first-class can't wait to revisit" - May 2010
"This is our second visit to Limefitt Park. We last came in December 09 and stayed at Kingfisher Lodge during the fabulous thick snow. This time the weather was lovely and we enjoyed many lovely walks in the local area. Otter Lodge is as comfortable cosy and homely as Kingfisher Lodge and we have loved our time here. Our 18-month-old son has loved watching the horses in the field opposite and seeing the ducks by the stream. We have enjoyed delicious meals in both pubs in Troutbeck and had a great walk to Ambleside via Wansfell Pike. We are already thinking about when to visit again! Thank you John and Linda for another wonderful holiday. We look forward to the next one." - May 2010
"What can we say? A perfect retreat to get away from the stress and strains of life! So tranquil and beautiful, the best location for a retreat we have ever had. The lodge itself is so comfortable and cosy we don't want to leave. Enjoyed a pint at the local in front of the fire, but the food at the highly recommended Mortal Man is at the top of our list. My daughter came for the day and the amenities ie play area, pool and horses were ideal for her. Now we feel totally refreshed and ready to get back to real life. We will definitely be back and will be calling you very soon. It will be recommended to all we know." - May 2010
"We have had a wonderful stay here at Otter Lodge. Fantastic views and great location. Enjoyed spending our evenings on the balcony watching the horses and feeding the resident duck! Thank you for a perfect break" - April 2010
"Fantastic lodge with amazing views. Lodge was homely and clean. Great walks for the dogs nearby and all the pubs dog friendly. Best pub - The Mortal Man. Food there was out of this world!! Looking forward to coming back again" - April 2010
"This has been a super weekend escape. Otter Lodge is a clean, cosy and must have one of the best positions on site. Sitting listening to the sound of the beck and looking at the view is so relaxing. Did some lovely walks straight from the door and managed to tire the dogs which was a bonus. Ate out at The Mortal Man both nights, great food and Timothy Taylor's beer - what more could anyone want! I have a dodgy back and often struggle with uncomfy beds while on holiday - not here though - fantastic comfy nights sleep. Thanks John for the perfect dog friendly break. Will be back without a doubt." - April 2010
"Spent a lovely few days here at to lodge. Location, scenery and facilities fantastic. Lovely and clean and well equipped. A big thank you to John, the owner, for all his support when our car broke down. Will definitely come back." April 2010
"My second visit to the Hobson lodges. This time with the other members of my family. They were very impressed. Lovely birthday here on Sunday. We had great weather for the time of year. This time we had a barbecue and lovely fish and chips at the Haybarn on site. They were so friendly and loved the dog. I have to force myself to pack up and leave now!" April 2010

We want to recommend the Coniston Boating Centre as we took out a motorboat for four hours and had a barbecue on a jetty it was heaven! Also the Italian restaurant, Dobbs, in Ambleside was lovely. Having our dinner on the balcony at night listening to the river has definitely been a highlight, which is why we hope to see you again soon. We don't want to leave!" - March 2010

"May we say this has been a fantastic stay. Lodge is absolutely perfect. Thanks to John. The fire didn't work properly when we arrived but when John called to see if we had made it safely, we told him and within a few hours he had it fixed. Fab service. Everything was provided so it was exactly like going round a mate's house. We will be back sometime. Thank you. Really enjoyed it here." - January 2010

"A great pet-friendly Lodge. Clean and warm. Had a great break with our two dogs. Thanks a lot." - January 2010
"Christmas Day! We couldn't have asked for more, waking up to a white Christmas. We took great pleasure in decorating the dining table where we had all the trimmings on a Christmas lunch, with help from the fantastic lodge facilities. However, best news came when a proposal took place between myself and my now fiance . Of course I accepted within the picturesque surroundings!! A big thanks to John and Linda for the best Christmas ever." - December 2009
"Firstly we would like to say we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Otter Lodge. The view with the snow has been absolutely stunning - like a Christmas card scene. the lodge itself was extremely clean and was kitted out with all the necessities and more. We took a walk to the Mortal Man and enjoyed a well deserved drink! We found the staff to be very polite and welcoming as we sat defrosting by the log fires. Also the Lighthouse restaurant in the town served good quality food. It's very apparent staying here that the lodge is well cared for by its owners. I was surprised with just the amount of "stuff" we had at our disposal. We stayed during some heavy snow and the lodge is well located. We did walks to Ambleside and Windermere -- although we feel very tired for it! We would recommend the lodge to family and friends without reservation. - December 2009 "
"We had a fantastic weekend at the lodge! Beautiful setting and a lovely cosy Lodge. We would like to say big thank you to John, Linda and Gary for all your help! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back next year." - November 2009
"To everybody, especially Mr Hobson, the owner! Thank you very much for accommodation. The lodge had everything we need. In fact we were a bit surprised at all the equipment we found here! Though the weather was typically Cumbrian (rained all the stay), we enjoyed it very much! Thanks again! In case any of us will be travelling nearby, we will try to make a stay again. (Sorry for my English, it is not perfect)" (note from John - it's rather better than my Czechoslovakian though!)" - November 2009
"Well what can I say? From the moment we arrived we felt that Otter Lodge was a magical story trail with the most amazing view. I would recommend to all our friends and family and am sure we will be back very soon." - November 2009

"We have had an amazing weekend here at Otter Lodge. The lodge is amazing - so cosy and warm with beautiful views. Our 6 month old puppy loved his 1st holiday. We will definitely be back"- October 2009
"We both had a great break away from the "norm" - The lodge has everything we needed.. especially the warm fire for the cold evening! Location is great - we are not strangers to the Lakes, but we have not stayed on this side before - lovely. Thanks to owners for a very well turned out lodge - we especially like the view out from the balcony - even a kingfisher or two!" (note from John- you were in the wrong lodge - you are only supposed to see Otters from this one :-))" - October 2009
"What a "magical" stay we have had here at "Otter Lodge". The lodge stands in one of the best positions in the park. The brochure photos don't do it justice. The amenities on the site are superb. We must comment on the contents in the lodge. Talk about "home from home". NOTHING has been missed out at all, and it was all spotless and clean. It really is a credit to the owners, John & Linda, - two really lovely people. 10/10 We shall be back." - October 2009
