Outdoor Equipment Shops
« on: May 16, 2007, 05:55:05 PM »
I finally parted company with my extra comfortable 15 year old Neuwald walking boots last weekend. Oddly enough the soles on both boots came adrift on the same walk and I now have to replace them. Unfortunately Neuwald seem to have gone bust so I am starting from scratch in my hunt for the perfect boot.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good outdoor equipment shops around the area and / or recommendations for good quality / value makes of boot.

I read on another site that Gore-Tex linings are a bit of a marketing gimmick as they wear away long before the rest of the boot, and that leather outers are still considered the best answer. Does anyone have any views on that - Gore-Tex wasn't an option last time I bought boots  :-\

Regards

John

Try Stewart Cunninghams in Ambleside, John. They know what they are taking about and let you wear them indoors for 2 weeks to make sure they're comfortable

Thanks Elspeth

Not sure that I'd want to buy a pair of boots that my feet had been in for two weeks  :o

I'll check them out over the weekend if I get time - thanks for the advice.

Best wishes

John

Finally bought some boots at Gaynor Sports.

I got some Brasher boots that have leather so soft that it almost feels a bit kinky wearing them. I could have worn them for a month round the house but christened them that day.

I was a bit miffed to see that Blacks had a 20% off offer, but soon felt better as their price for the same boot was 20% more. Funny that  ;)

I never did find Stuart Cunninghams, but thankd for the advice Elspeth.

Those are the same ones as Peter got a few weeks ago - he's very pleased with them.
