Over development of Limefit Park
« on: October 01, 2011, 12:25:06 PM »
I've just got back from a visit to Limefit staying in one of the lovely lodges. I was saddened to hear that the park want to cover that tree paddock with lodges now.

The beauty of Limefit to us is it's peace and quiet and the fact that it isn't overdeveloped. This would really be a bad thing if it was allowed to happen.

I signed the petition in the post office whilst i was up and the local villagers are all up in arms about this as we found out when eating out in the pub.

I'm going to be complaining to the National Park authority too. I checked yesterday afternoon and it's not too late to object on  http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk

The application is 7/2011/5458

I can't believe that they want to ruin such a lovely place.

I have holidayed here for the past 4 years with my disabled husband. He always enjoys the fact that there is so much green space on the park that can be accessed easily given my husband's disability.   I am actually flabagasted that anyone could want to cover this beautiful landscape with more lodges. It seem its all about profit and nobody cares about the environment or what the place looks like. Such a shame.

Hi Fatkat and Concerned and welcome!

I think you'll find that there are quite a few people who are not particularly happy about this application. I know a lot of owners have expressed some serious concerns on the private forum here and the local village association seem to be getting mobilised to fight it. Whether the National Park Authority would contemplate allowing it will be interesting. Sometimes they seem to allow things because they are scared of the costs of losing an appeal. I imagine that the stronger the groundswell of objection from inside and outside the National Park, the more confident they will feel in making a negative decision.

I can see WHY SLP need to do this - it's all about cashflow - but it does make a bit of a mockery of the claims to have set aside the land involved to preserve micro-habitat  ::) I wonder what that nice Mr Bellamy will have to say when he finds out  :D

My husband and I normally take a break in the Lakes around this time of year and with the weather being so great I don't think you can beat the lakes. We booked online on the limefitt.com site the first time after a recommendation from some friends of ours who had spent a few days at Limefitt.

Was well worth it, especially as we normally get a B&B, the cost of which has gone up and up. Really good base for exploring the lakes.  It will be terrible if they ruin the park by building on every available green space though! I just can't believe what they are doing!

Hi Fatkat

Great to see you are a fan of the site    ;)

I'd definitely agree that the lodges do represent great value for money compared to B&B don't they? (But I would say that as I rent out 4 of them  :D)

For me  a  big part of the attraction is in the setting. That is why i have invested so heavily at Limefitt.

Like you I really hope they won't spoil that by concreting over all of the greenery.

i live near Gretna, we live above the border but spend a lot of time in the lakes becasue its is so relaxing and easiful - i think it's a bit more romantic too. i would recommend Limefitt holiday park in Troutbeck for it's natural beauty - what you caled the setting. Don't let them ruin  it for us.  :'(
